North Wales is an amazing place with beautiful landscapes. I went to North Wales for 1 week and found some amazing things to do and places to see without breaking the bank. Take a look at my North Wales Travel Guide for additional information. Let’s start with the best things to do in North Wales.

Free things to do in North Wales

Walk around the picturesque village of Betws-y-Coed

An absolutely stunning village to visit. My Bnb was situated in this village and it was a perfect place to explore. There were many walks in the village all of which were completely free. They also range in difficulty so there is something for everyone.

Climb Mount Snowdon

Climb Mount Snowdon. Although this is technically a free activity, you may have to pay to park your car or use public transport to get there. There are free parking spots however it was far from pen-y pass so, in my opinion, it is probably better to get the Sherpa bus. They are also limited so if you do want a free space you have to get there pretty early.

Best Places to visit in North Wales

Fairy Glen

This is situated in the village of Betws-y-coed and is a short walk from the train station. It does cost to enter as it is on private land however it is extremely beautiful. If you head to Fairy Glen first and then do the riverside walk, it takes you around a loop that has the most beautiful mystical scenery.

Swallow Falls

To view this waterfall you will need to pay £2 to enter. It is a beautiful place however it is rather busy as you would need to queue if you would like to take a selfie with the falls.

Portmeirion

Portmeirion will cost you £15 to enter. This is the most touristy activity you could do on this list. Because it is a tourist attraction everything is completely overpriced, for example, a pot of tea will cost you a whopping £7! Besides this, Portmeirion doesn’t look like it’s in the UK. I actually convinced one of my friends that I was in Italy. I would highly recommend checking out the walks (one of which leads to a secluded beach, win-win).

Beddgelert

I found out about Beddgelert when I was researching climbing Mound Snowdon as you can start the trail in Beddgelert. I then did some research on what to do in the Beddgelert and found the most beautiful walk around a river. Check out my post on Beddgelert here.

Watkins Path Waterfalls

Do you fancy going wild swimming? or perhaps you just want a dip in a pool. Suppose this sounds like you head to the Watkins path in Nyant Perh. Just a short walk from the car park will take you to a series of waterfalls with different depths, whether you prefer to jump in or dip your feet there is something for everyone. Snowdonia’s Secret Infinity Pool

Snowdonia’s secret infinity pool (although it is not so secret anymore) is a must-see if you are in Snowdonia. To find it is pretty difficult, I actually was heading up to Snowdon and found it en route. It is hidden that you cannot see it from the road but the views are incredibly stunning. (Note: This pool is not for bathing. It supplies the houses below with water.)

Zip World – Forest Coaster

Want to go on a rollercoaster in a forest? Head to Zip World in Betws-y-Coed. Here you get your own cart and can go as fast (or slow) as you please. Plus you get three turns with your ticket. Each go lasts around 6 minutes. I had so much fun on this and I cannot wait to go back and try it again. It costs between £20-35 depending on the season and if you have a child with you.
