Aldi checkout free store Greenwich, London where you can simply walk out without having to queue. The store is situated on Greenwich high street and is called Aldi shop and go. So how does it work?

How Does Aldi No Checkout Work?

First, you need to download the Aldi shop and go app. Click here for IOS and click here for Android. Fill in your details including your bank details. From there you will receive a QR which you need to scan at the barriers to enter the shop.

In the store, there are loads of cameras that see your every move. It can somehow sense what you’re picking up and putting down items so when you leave you will be charged correctly. I wanted to test this out and only bought a latte and a doughnut. Upon leaving a staff member at the exit will let you out and you will be charged. Your receipt will be emailed to you within 15 minutes and you can also see the receipt on the app. It is also emailed to you too.

I found this fascinating as I had no idea how Aldi knew my doughnut was a chocolate iced ring doughnut and not the strawberry one. It was quite a novelty coming in and testing it out.

How to get to Aldi Checkout free store Greenwich London?

Get the DLR to Greenwich (be aware that there are two tube stations in Greenwich make sure you go to Greenwich on the DLR, NOT North Greenwich which is on the Jubilee line) It is a 5-minute walk from there simply turn left from the tube station and it is on your left.

  • Aldi checkout free store Greenwich is very small, it is actually the smallest Aldi I have ever been in so be aware of this.
  • Avoid weekends if you can. As the store is very small they have limited capacity so you may well have to queue to get in. I guess its good as when you are inside and completed your shopping to can simply walk out. I went on a weekday around 3.30pm and it was very quiet.
  • Make sure your bring your own bags. I noticed as I was going to leave that there weren’t many bags available. It is also helpful as I saw many shoppers just use their own shopping bags as shopping baskets so you can just walk out.
  • There are no trolleys however there were shopping baskets with wheels. As this is a small store there is no need for a trolley but it was still bizarre to not see a trolley in sight.
  • Limited Staff. I asked one of the staff members how many people worked at this store and his answer: 6. 3 on the shop floor and 3 in the stock room.
  • No speacialbuys. This Aldi store is more of an express store and only has the essentials inside. I guess this is a good thing so I don’t buy any unnecessary items I don’t need.

Although Aldi checkout free store greenwich is small it is by far the tidiest Aldi store I have ever been in and it was almost fully stocked (apart from the bakery). If you are around Greenwich I would recommend going in to test out Aldi checkout free store just remember to download the app and add your card details before you arrive so you can just walk in with your QR code. To give you an idea of cost, I bought a coffee that costs 65p and a chocolate iced ring doughnut 25p.
